2004, Fantastic Plastic
Hailing from Devon in the southwest of England, this new four-piece share more in common with Coldplay or fellow Devonites Muse than with bands associated with long hairs and Volkswagen buses. Kieran Scragg (front man and guitarist) and his crew of tunesmiths (cousin Joel Scragg on bass, Neil Reed on keyboards, and Ella Lewis on drums) pen the sorts of lyrically and melodically magical songs that shake the soul and ass simultaneously. The band’s debut full-length, "The Picture Show," is a foray into the power of the sung word. This form of audible poetry is a primary strength of the record, with Scragg singing lyrics that make you stop and take notice. As NME said, "'The Picture Show’ is a stunning collection of lyrical snapshots backed by mournfully beautiful melodies and topped off with Keran Scragg’s unforgettable vocals."
