2005, Ace Fu
Hundreds of shows, and adding thousands of new fans to their community, along comes the inspired concept EP, PROTEST; a harrowing mini-concept-album that rolls operatic hysteria, ominous post-punk rumbling and cosmic Christmas music into a soundtrack for the end of the world. The only thing more unnerving than hearing Lightburn solemnly intone that there is "no hope before destruction" is the knowledge that all this is merely the set-up for what is to come.
Protest is a three-part conceptual piece conceived and recorded in the summer of 2001. Produced by the band in Montreal and mixed by Scott Harding in NYC, this is a story about the birth of humanity, awakened by the disillusionment of the world through knowledge. This story is about the destruction of everything sacred and beautiful. As something dies, something grows. Humanity, as ghosts in an urban landscape. In order to find ourselves, we must destroy ourselves, the human race craves the experience.
