2011, Monolathe
From the anthemic "How to Win an Argument" to the introspective "Postcard from Somewhere Cold," The Southern Front is a tight set of cohesive yet distinct indie rock songs taking influences from acts like Wolf Parade, Arcade Fire, The Secret Machines, and the Beatles.
Since their previous EP, Five Gallant Steeds, Dead Black Hearts has played live shows with the likes of Heartless Bastards, Electric Six, and Civil Twilight—all the while refining their use of multiple harmonic vocal lines and musical counterpoint to make The Southern Front catchy and instantly engaging, with subtleties that reveal themselves after each listen.
Self-produced in Austin, TX and mixed at Public Hi-Fi (Spoon, Mates of State), the atmosphere is roomy and organic, incorporating layered guitars, keys, brass, bass, distinct percussion, and claps … oh, the claps
