(The
REAL) TUESDAY WELD is the pseudonym for SERGE GAINSBOURG-ian English auteur
Stephen Coates. His cut-n-paste romantic pop sensibilities (called fragile,
understated and painfully intimate), are led astray by a sweet perversion of
’30 swing music and the hallucinatory, slightly sinister 80s-cum-30s
retro-surrealism of Terry Gilliam's 'Brazil', minimalist mid-90s club tunes
built around riffs copped from pre-war 78s. Definitely worth obsessing over!
Originally released February '00, Parasol’s timely seasonal offering of this
gem to the USA (and Japan) follows on the heels of their recent Kindercore EP,
so timely indeed!
