The Big Sleep
The post-rock/experimental outfit the Big Sleep feature Danny Barria (guitar), Sonya Balchandani (bass/vocals), and Gabe Rhodes (drums). The Brooklyn-based trio creates a brooding batch of psychedelic rock with an indie rock aesthetic. Prior to forming the Big Sleep in 2005, Balchandani made her debut with the stylish noise pop band Hong Kong, while Barria played with Haywood and the Detroit dream pop act Mahogany. "Finally, a new NYC band that isn't pretending to care what a young NYC band should supposedly sound like. These guys aren't retro (if anything, they are future-o), don't employ Wire-like guitars, and don't do the Hell yelp or Curtis croon.
