The Faint
Omaha, NE's the Faint have gone through countless changes in their relatively short career, but with each shift, both in terms of personnel and style, they have made a distinct new impression and turned more and more heads. Originally called Norman Bailer and featuring current members Clark and Todd Baechle (later he changed his name to Todd Fink, after marrying future Saddle Creek recording artist Orenda Fink of Azure Ray), as well as bassist Joel Peterson, the group's early years were a mix of lo-fi pop and tongue-in-cheek easy listening with a ...[more]

Stark and uncompromising, The Faint are back with their second full-length. Electronic, darkwave pop, with plenty of confessionals and come-ons. Their hypnotizing keyboard tantrums and unique, straightforward lyrics, which explored the intricacies of personal interactions, pricked the ears of the underground. A reinvention of their sound.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! The Faint are back with Danse Macabre, the follow-up to 1999's highly praised "Blank-wave Arcade," which fused traditional rock instrumentation with electronic elements to create a haunting yet danceable sound that was more driven by punk rock than any sort of dance foundation. The Faint continue to evade the traditional standoffish and cold aura of electronic music by using warm and embracing instrumentation, including bass guitar and cello, in addition to the barrage of analog s [ read more ]

DJs started voluntarily playing tracks on commercial stations like KROQ. Word of mouth pricked the ears of the press, and their name fell fr [ read more ]

In the oversaturated indie-rock genre, The Faint's debut "Media" stands out as some of the most intelligent pop music around today. The hook-laden vocal melodies, strong choruses, and occasional keyboard motifs provide a solid pop foundation which is then broadened by disjointed guitar sounds. They effectively combine the aggressive new wave aesthetic found in an Elvis Costello record with the multilayered sound of the Cure. The 12 tracks on "Media" are an even mix of '90s indie rock and '80s mainstream p [ read more ]
