Lovers Need Lawyers (CDep)
The Good Life began as a means for Tim Kasher to use a songwriting approach that differed from his other projects (namely, Cursive), but it didn't take long for the solo project to come into its own as a band. From the refined, quiet pop of the first LP, ?Novena on a Nocturn,? to the moody, hook-laden mixture of 2002's ?Black Out,' The Good Life has come to encapsulate its own distinct style based in diametric oppositions. Their newest EP is no exception. ?Lovers Need Lawyers? may very well be some of the happiest angry songs ever recorded. Six poppy, catchy doses of malice and ill will, sing-along anthems of divorce and disillusionment, liquor-soaked lounge as interpreted by Dexy's Midnight Runners. Just be glad he isn't singing about you. ?Lovers Need Lawyers? is the precursor to the next LP due out this August 2004. (It's also pretty brilliant.)
