Montreal's The High Dials have unleashed more of their neo-psychedelic pop on their new independently released album Moon Country. The album was produced by Joseph Donovan (Sam Roberts, The Dears) and was recorded in a stone cottage in Ireland and the band's hometown. Moon Country will simulate a vinyl LP by placing silence between "Seagull Blues" and "Open Up The Gates" to split the record into two "sides." "We like having silence between two pieces of music, the way it used to be on LPs," th [ read more ]

The album War of the Wakening Phantoms is a brilliant recording of jangle, psychedelia and colorful melodies: reminiscent of a psychedelic-ized Squeeze backed by The Clash. Their fantastic song structure would surely make the guys in Teardrop Explodes and Echo and The Bunnymen gush with pride. The band cites many influences affecting the sonic textures of A New Devotion: Pink Floyd, Love, CSNY, John Barry, Air, Blur, the Kinks and Curtis Mayfield. Montreal's The High Dials have won some notable fans since their 2003 debut. Anton Newcombe of the Brian Jonestown Massacre declares them "the best band in North America," and routinely turns up at gigs to say so, hopping onstage to join in their songs. As a result, the band wound up supporting BJM on a recent sold-out tour of the UK.

From The High Dials' acclaimed album "A New Devotion" comes the "Fields in Glass" EP, an aural workout of remixes, outtakes, and previously unreleased tracks. The EP includes three new remixes of "Field in Glass" and the album version of "Things Are Getting Better," plus two new tracks -- the remarkable "The House Where Trouble Sleeps" and the psych-rock stomp "City Rivers." The High Dials continue to mix jangle, psychedelia, and colorful melodies, reminiscent of a psychedelicized Squeeze backed by The Who.

The new album A New Devotion is a brilliant recording of jangle, psychedelia, and colorful melodies: reminiscent of a psychedelicized Squeeze backed by The Clash. Their fantastic song structure would surely make the guys in Teardrop Explodes and Echo and The Bunnymen gush with pride. The album is about as ambitious as a pop album can get. The 18 songs tell the story of a mysterious character known only as 'Silas' and his attempt to escape unseen powers in a nightmarish city of the future. Anticip [ read more ]
