The Mercury Program
Gainesville, FL-based post rock quartet the Mercury Program assembled guitarist/vocalist Tom Reno, bassist Sander Travisano, keyboardist/vibraphonist Whitney Travisano and drummer David Lebleu. Debuting with the single "Lights Out in Georgia," the group issued their self-titled first LP in 1999. Recorded by Andy Baker (Macha, Causey Way, Mendoza Line) in Athens, GA, this record clearly shows the band's progression as songwriters and musicians. Less minimal (more complex?) than their debut on Boxcar Records due to the adoption of additional instrumentations (i.e. vibraphones), The Mercury Program successfully weave jazz-induced drums with rhythmic basslines and off-time guitars. While the band plans to record its third full length later this year, they found time to stop by Chase Park Transduction and record a 5 song/30 minute EP, again with Andy Baker (Macha, Causey Way, and The Glands).
