Hear Where You Are (CD)
The Mitchells bust onto the music scene with this hot debut release on Portland Maine's Pigeon Records. This Northampton Mass quartet sounds a lot like the Wedding Present circa 1990 but frontman, Caleb Wetmore, like Interpol's Paul Bank, has a healthy dose of Ian Curtis as well as David Gedge in him. The intricate driving guitars of Wetmore and Kayvan Darouian are dark but hardly gloomy. Rather, they are hyper with frequent busts of beautifully orchestrated atonal energy. Wetmore has a nack for understatement and often describes tragically amuzing situations in his charming conversational lyrical style. After eight years of touring and home recording The Mitchells enlisted the engineering assistance of Thom Monahan (Pernice Brothers/Beachwood Sparks) and Mark Alan Miller (Jay Mascis/Free Kitten) to capture the genius of their live sound on this not to be missed record.![]()
