Debut double-album by The Olivia Tremor Control finally back in print! The highly influential Elephant 6 masterpiece from 1996 has been out of print since 1999. This is the album with which The Olivia Tremor Control took the world by storm, receiving features in Rolling Stone, Spin, NME, Melody Maker, CMJ, Magnet, and others.

Formed in Ruston, Louisiana in 1993 and transplanted to Athens, Georgia in 1995, they assembled "Music from the Unrealized Film Script, Dusk at Cubist Castle" over a month long period in the Denver-based studio of childhood friend and Apples (in Stereo) mastermind, Robert Schneider, using home recordings that they had amassed since their inception, as well as new mind-expanding studio creations.

User Reviews

I love this record. It's an ambitious sound collage that remains very accesible, never neglecting strong melodies while, at the same time, showering them with vast amounts of experimentation. The Beach Boys / Beatles influence is obvious, but they simply use it to expand their sound pallette, creating something that, simultaneously, sound new and familiar. One of the best albums of the past decade, reissued in all it's glory.

An excellent record, particularly if you are into the Beatles or 60s psychedelia. After many, many listenings the hooks will still grab you and the production job will leave you reeling. It picks you up out of your everyday life and floats you to a happier, magical place. As soon as you make it to the middle of "green typewriters" you'll realize that you're not in kansas anymore. Full of surprises, instantly likeable, one of my favorite albums, I cant say enough good things about it. Go get it.
