This album is positively monumental. At one moment you are in a punk-rock house party in Brooklyn and then you are transported to a Berlin nightclub at 3am and then you wake up with a hangover on a Sunday morning as sunlight hits your face. The DFA-supplied beats are perfect, the tinny Gang-of-Rapture guitar is artful, and the basslines are incessant. But what really makes this album important, and more than just a Williamsburg art-rock document, are the slower tracks. There's a lovely power-pop song that is pure Big Star, a slow ballad that could fit in on 'Plastic Ono Band,' and a lost-love cry-along that sounds like something Nick Drake wanted to write. Records like this don't come along that often.

these days Rarely do you get the chance to buy an album that truly lives up to the "hype." The Raptures "Echoes" even before it got released had been dubbed as one of the essential albums of this year, or even better this century.. Am i glad i agree to that! Echoes simply has everything i have longed for in an album. i want to be able to dance to it, or have my deepest emotions roused by it. Successfully, the rapture has done that. Echoes blurs the fine line between rock and roll and dance music. Olio is simply electro madness while tracks such as "Infatuation," are there for the more sombre mood. but i simply lose control of everything when i listen to "Coming of Spring," "I Need Your Love," and "House of Jealous Lovers." I might as well mention the whole album!! There's no skipping tracks here. Every track is brilliant! As early as now i'm going to say (in MY opinion) this album is going to be lined up among the original post punk bands. Echoes is Ace!

This album is like a clusterduck of all emotions bundled up in an energizer bunny suit globe-trotting the world. It's like a dance party in your one room manhattan apartment where you hit your back on the stove and your front on the toilet whenever you bust a move. That being said, Echoes combines a post-punk attitude with electronic tendencies, creating music that is as blood-pumping as it is interesting. Track 6, ''House of Jealous Lovers,'' is one of my favorites, and is the essential song to get over your psycho ex that throws stuff at your head when you talk to other guys. Also, The Rapture brings a sense of humor to their music, with count-offs in several songs. Be sure not to skip any tracks, as the album sorts crooning ballads amoung dancier and punkier tracks.
