2006, Fractured Discs
For their first full length, Carrboro, NC's husband and wife team, Jenny and Lee Waters, aka Work Clothes, spent three years writing and recording these twelve hauntingly bittersweet pop gems. Recording was done primarily at their own Bless This Mess home studio as well as a couple of other friendly local living rooms; final mixing was performed by the warm and thoughtful ears of Brian Paulson (Slint, The Rosebuds). Though originally conceived and begun as a duo, official Work Clothes membership has since grown to five with the recent addition of Jeff Clarke(gtr) and Justin Ansley(drums), both formerly of Cub Country, and keyboardist Jill Christensen. While your day may constantly seem to be moving in fast motion- listening to
These Are The Shoes We Wear makes thirty three of these precious minutes seem to slowly unfold in soothing, golden flashes of brilliant southern pop psychedelia. Work Clothes is a must for fans of the Secret Stars, Monroe Mustang, Galaxie 500, the Magnetic Fields and the Elephant 6 Collective.

Tom InsoundI haven't been able to stop listening to this album. The production is amazing and subtle. The whole album is warm, unpretentious and full of homespun lush chamber pop. It's what I've been waiting for all year.
