2003, SNSE
Warpdrive-damaged space alien disco beats for the new party generation:
"MECHANIK, the luminescent silver extraterrestrial, constructs minimal, verging on austere, break-dancing symphonies comprised of a radar's lexicon of bleeps and chirps. The music, at times, is reminiscent of SFS's Machine Cuisine 10" and the Clone Theory 12" and Kraftwerk's Radioactivity LP. The only other contemporary release that Mechanik's music shares some vague aesthetic vision with is this relatively obscure 12" from Europe by the Dombi Funky Crü, who, ironically, appropriate sounds and images from early 80's electro and break-dancing beats. But, each of these groups are a trifle too grim, serious or Euro compared to the sounds of MECHANIK. With a focused approach, MECHANIK's 3-5 minute tunes are percolating rhythms with lasers shooting across the sky while little silver fingers, dipped in a jar of prepubescent sweat, tickle a synth's ivories. This music slinks, rocks and glides with beats pushed so far to the foreground that they sound like booty-shaking emanations from the speakers of the Fischer-Price boom box." - J. Farrar
