This New Technology

VINYL FORMAT. Following the release of their debut album, Dystopia, Midnight Juggernauts shift the focus to album number two with the release of their gripping new single "This New Technology." Released in a limited edition of 500 on orange vinyl by Acéphale Records, the boutique label that introduced Memory Tapes, Salem, and CFCF over their first few releases - this 7" single is sure to disappear quickly. As with the label's previous limited releases, there will be no repress.

An epic journey through time, space and the afterlife, "This New Technology" is packed with dark driving tom rhythms filtered through lush pop synth-scapes, while the vocals are more aggressive than they've ever been before. There's a certain dark musculature to the single that was hinted at in their previous material, but is fully realized here. The B-Side, "Fantastic Valleys," finds the band at its most adventurous, but also its most sublime. A psych-tribal intro gives way to uplifting, but strangely disconcerting organ and synth riffs one feels as though they are drifting down some Amazonian tributary chewing fresh salvia. Or something. It's blissful and meditative and surprising for a band previously known for dancier songs. The single also marks the vinyl debut of Vancouver's Babe Rainbow, who delivers a nightmarish dubbed out rework of the A-side. Recently signed to Warp Records, Babe Rainbow's distanced take on dubstep has more to do with atmosphere and dread than bass tones. Textured and impossibly deep, the remix is a perfect juxtaposition to the thrilling highs of its original.
