Thom's Night Out

Clogs have a command of contemporary classical music, the modernist avant garde, Indian folk music, and traditional rhythms and harmonies. It's in their background and in their blood. Their structures will bring to mind minimalism and ambient music; their melodies the folk sounds of India and the Jewish Diaspora. They write their own compositions, allow them to evolve in rehearsal, and improvise in the live setting.

The group's experiences are varied and wide-ranging. Collectively, the quartet's members have played in Fiji and in Paris, toured America's Deep South in rock'n'roll bands, and performed on the Chinese mainland in classical groups. They've shared stages and gnashed music and minds with an equally eccentric list of performers and teachers: jazz performers Marvin Sewel and Jeff Haynes (both from Cassandra Wilson's band), Indian musician Pundit Ashok Roy, composer Martin Bresnick, early music conductor and performer Sir Christopher Hogwood, Evan Ziporyn (Bang on a C
