Thor Harris

Thor Harris (born February 2, 1965) is a carpenter and multi instrumentalist from Austin, Texas. He formed Stick People with Craig Ross in 1987. Stick People was one of the first New Wave-era Austin bands to attract attention by the music industry.Thor Harris did not enjoy the commerical suscess and felt he lost artistic control over his own work and decided that he didn't want anything to do with the money-driven world of the music business. He was going to pursue a carreer in painting instead. Eventually Thor met up with Rob Halverson. and saw in him an artist that could not be corrupted by the industry. Now the foundation was laid for a great carrier as musician. His many and varied musical experiences since have included runs with Rebecca Cannon's Scarlitt outfit and former Poi Dog Pondering violinist Susan Voelz, the latter of whomhe accompanied on a low-budget U.S. tour. That took him to Bloomington, Indiana, home of sometime John Mellencamp fiddler/solo artist Lisa Germano, who in turn hired Thor and Ross to perform with her a year later. And finally, though he still lives in Austin, Thor realized a longtime dream by becoming a member of the dark, grating, New York-based cult band Swans

Since 2001 Thor Harris has been a member of Texan quartet Shearwater
