2007, Tarnished
Like the end of a long road-trip with The Velvet Underground if Neil Young was in the driver's seat. Hypnotic yet grounded & perhaps a little dangerous, renowned visual-artist WTs' music picks up in that middle-ground where those like Galaxie 500 & M. Ward have left off. WT takes simple, everyday events & concepts and turns them into exquisite moments while not falling into the trappings of dwelling on himself or looking for attention. These apartment recordings are somehow more potent, more stark & personal than live shows. The absence of drums on well over half of the record brings you closer to the songwriting. You can hear the empty room. The subtle noises & hums, the alarm bells, sudden crashes & simulated bird calls are all allowed to exist as part of the composition.

Customer Reviews

Alan SmithThe songwriting reminds me of Neil Young with a touch of Robyn Hitchcock or even Bevis Frond, with country, folk and psychedelic elements all on the verge of implosion. Great stuff. I'll be spending a lot of time with this album.
