Aenima (CD)
For their third release, Tool explore the progressive rock territory previously forged by such bands as King Crimson. However, Tool are conceptually innovative with every minute detail of their art, which sets them apart from most bands. Make no mistake, this isn't your father's rock record. Sonically, the band has never sounded tighter. Long exploratory passages are unleashed with amazing precision, detail, and clarity, which only complements the aggressive, abrasive shorter pieces on the album. There is no compromise from any member of the band, with each of them discovering the dynamics of his respective instrument and pushing the physical capabilities to the limit. Topics such as the philosophies of Bill Hicks (eloquently eulogized in the packaging), evolution and genetics, and false martyrdom will fly over the heads of casual listeners. But those listening closely will discover a special treat: a catalyst encouraging them to discover a world around them to which they otherwise might have been blind. If these aren't good enough reasons to listen to ¦nima, then just trust the simple fact that Tool deliver the hard rock goods every time the band chooses to release something. ~ Rob Theakston, All Music Guide

| I was never much of a Tool fan until they took the stage at Lollapalooza, and nothing in the world could have prepared me for what I was in store for. After seeing them live, I ran out and picked up a copy of Tool's latest effort, AEnima. This album changed the way I listen to music. Be warned though, this album isn't for everyone. From the beginning of track 1, the music plunges down into a dark, deep abyss and drags you down with it (as long as your willing). The immensely dark and depressing songs have a sort of beauty to them, and you can feel the emotion in Maynard's vocals. The music is heavy yet gentle. Saddening yet calming. Deppressing and emotional, yet somewhat uplifting. An album has never moved me like this one, and I recommend that anyone who likes music that strikes an emotional chord in you to pick this one up immediately. Possibly one of the greatest rock albums of all times. I'd give it five stars if I could. | |

| this album is really good. i give this album a rateing of four stars. if you havnt gotten your hands on this you really need to. but i know all you metal heads out there allready know this. for those of you who havnt had the pleasure of expieriencing the hard edge lyrics of the rev. maynard, the pounding drums of dana carey, or the tight riffs of adam jones you are really depriveing yourself. so put the bong down and go purchase this album. | |
