Top Cop is a solo project by Santa Cruz, California native Dan Merrill, who meticulously constructs vivacious pop songs above a fractured and synthetic electronic drum kit. Neon, fuzz-laced synth lines wind around lush harmonic textures, punctuated with wild and frantic gestures. His baritone voice yelps, croons, and cracks its way through allusions to 1990's alternative rock, 1980's new wave, and 1960's psychedelia and R&B stylings with frantic abandon.
Merrill also writes orchestral music, chamber music, and music for film, but captures something manic, accessible,and instantly gratifying through the uninhibited voice of Top Cop.
