Tractor Kings
The Tractor Kings are a rare and intriguing blend of alt-country and neo-psychedelia, mixing influences ranging from Gram Parsons and Bob Dylan to Chris Knox and Galaxie 500. The duo of singer/songwriter/guitarist Jacob Fleischli and drummer Rebecca Rury formed in Champaign-Urbana, IL, in 1999 and released their first album, Sunday Night, on the local imprint Mud Records in 2001. ~ Stewart Mason, All Music Guide[more]

'On Gone to Heaven, guitarist and vocalist Jacob Fleischli regrouped the Tractor Kings in order to record at Matt Talbott's Great Western Record Recorders Studio in Tolono, IL, a town where Fleischli's ancestors settled after immigrating to the U.S. from Ireland in the 1880s. The energy Fleischli took from recording there resulted in a complex and bittersweet collection of stripped-down folk songs on Gone to Heaven, the group's second disc on Mud Records. 'The debut by the Champaign-Urbana duo of guitarist Jacob Fleischli and drummer Rebecca Rury is an intriguing mix of alt-country and artsy slowcore, kind of like a cross between those two otherwise dissimilar duos the Handsome Family and the Tall Dwarfs. Strangely, though, the combination works. This music sounds at once trippy and organic, rooted in the melodic traditions of country music but with [ read more ]

Jacob Fleischli returns with his sophomore effort, Gone To Heaven. Recorded at Matt (Centaur/Hum) Talbott's Great Western Record Recorders in Tolono, Illinois - the same town that the Fleishli forefathers settled in upon immigrating to the US. This record is a fitting homecoming pairing Jake's obsession with death and the ghosts of his past, merging his Bob Dylan fixation with Talbott's sonic expertise. This is indeed a special album. In addition to Dylan's pervasive influence listeners will hear echoes of [ read more ]
