Produced by the band, Transference is made up of eleven new gems that honor the Spoon tradition while pushing the envelope of the band's sound ever further. "Before Destruction" opens proceedings with a transfixing air of foreboding before "Is Love Forever?" and "The Mystery Zone" kick in with hooks that grip the listener's cortex with the tenacity of an aural tapeworm. "Who Makes Your Money" and first single "Written In Reverse" will be familiar to Spoon fans who witnessed the band playing prototypical live versions at select dates in 2008, as will "Got Nuffin," the title track of the EP released by the band earlier this year. Transference is the first full-length offering of new Spoon material since 2007's Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga, Spoon's first Top 10 album.

Although most people already said this about Transference, it's no doubt how true it is. The LP is raw, the tinny drums of "Before Destruction", the frequent instances of guitar feedback, and the compressed, effected piano of "Goodnight Laura", are some of the plenty production nuances throughout the album. "The Mystery Zone" is glorious pop cake with a jarring cut at the end of your five-minute course, but there are 10 more meals to savor and enjoy from this record. "Nobody Gets Me But You" screams Talking Heads once it begins, but manages to be a good tune. "Is Love Forever?" glorifies a distinctive echoing effect, "Trouble Comes Running" is catchy, "Got Nuffin" is a weak spot, okay. Once you have digested your 11-course dream desert, you wouldn't come back to it as often. Transference is still a good playlist album.
