2009, XL
VINYL FORMAT. True Romance is the culmination of twelve great months for Golden Silvers, building on the success of the band's two independent 2008 singles "Arrows Of Eros" and "Magic Touch/Another Universe," and a series of rapturously received live appearances.
Produced by the latest producer wunderkind Lexxx (Crystal Castles, Esser), the True Romance album features nine brand new songs (including the forthcoming single of the same name) and updated versions of the previous single tracks.
"Indie rock is becoming increasingly difficult to define in 2009 thanks to bands such as London's Golden Silvers, whose debut album sounds like fireworks going off inside a pigeonhole. The kaleidoscope of influences at play here - frontman Gwilym Gold cites Dylan, Dre and Ian Dury among many others - gives rise to pleasing tracks such as 'Magic Touch,' best described as psychedelic doo-wop. Flamboyant lyrics, references to Greek myth and big, elastic bass lines dominate a cursory listen, but it's Gold's inspired use of keys - edgily off-key on the terrific 'Shakes,' and more than compensating for the absence of guitars - that repays closer attention." - Rolling Stone
