Hard on the eyes and put together on what must have been a very small budget, every volume of SPG's Pure Energy series throws together a random assortment of pop-oriented club hits, many of which were forgotten by the time the discs hit record-store shelves. These discs will be most useful to wedding DJs and those who like dance-pop but aren't concerned with really staying current. Though they're cheap in every sense of the word, each volume does have a small share of enduring tunes. The second volume includes Culture Beat's "Mr. Vain," Captain Hollywood Project's "More and More," Neneh Cherry's "Buddy X," Salt-n-Pepa's "Shoop," and Shaggy's "Oh Carolina." ~ Andy Kellman, All Music Guide
