2003, Stonegarden Records
Los Angeles dreampop indie rock violin/guitar-attack outfit The Black Watch reinvent themselves as a harder, deeper band with twin guitars ringingly distortedly to the fore. The songs are still reminiscent of your favorites from the heyday of Creation, Flying Nun, and 4AD but TBW's new sound is richer, more mature, more accessible. Recommended to fans of The House of Love, New Order, MBV, and XTC. "Memorable as any Kinks klassic" (Magnet), "Another bewitching release from this terrific band--it's amazing that, after 13 years of stellar releases, they're not as big as, say, Death Cab for Cutie (whom they blow away)" (Alternative Press).
