Vic Conrad & the First Third

This mysterious combo hails from Adelaide in South Australia, where they are renowned for making exciting, melodic and decidedly strange pop music. Magical little ditties that your radar will ping-ping on, so you’re bound to pick up a diverse selection of sublime influences: The Beach Boys via Syd Barrett, Bonnie Prince Billy via The Olivia Tremor Control, John Cunningham via Guided By Voices, Kevin Ayers via XTC, The Byrds via Julian Cope, and The Green Pajamas via, well, The Green Pajamas. Indubitably their own band with their own unique approaches yet these points of intersection are worth mentioning, as always. Expect an array of unexpected instrumentation as well... Just as you think you've got a handle on a tune, a string section appears, or an oboe, or a pedal steel guitar, or something even stranger still. What at first seems dead simple is in fact a pretty complex body of work. This endeavor was graced with a special appearance by The Bevis Frond's Nick Saloman, and further aided and abetted by members of Ice Cream Hands and The Martin Butler Evidence.
