Vinyl! In our long tradition of unearthing powerful bands that don't sound like everyone else, Alternative Tentacles is proud to present IOWASKA. This is our first British artist since AMEBIX. IOWASKA's story begins with guitarist/vocalist Sam Skraeling. She made her recording debut as the female voice on the No Sanctuary ep by none other than AMEBIX. After a stint working at London's cradle of the Goth scene, The Bat Cave, Sam and IOWASKA lead guitarist Graham relocated to Essex in rural England and the IOWASKA sound began to take shape. They have gone over well both at punk gigs and the British space-rock festival circuit, selling thousands of cassettes out of their van. Aural reference points range from the anarcho-punk/noise pioneers on the Crass and Spider Leg labels, to early SIOUXSIE AND THE BANSHEES, HAWKWIND, OZRIC TENTACLES and the ...Cambodia side of DEAD KENNEDYS. IOWASKA break the mold with a refreshing reminder of what punk, psychedelia and spacerock were originally supposed to be about- something different.
