2001, Flameshovel Records
Viza-Noir lay somewhere between the bulldozer and the scalpel: passion &
power; precision & patience. Chicago is known for its quality strategic rock
outfits; Viza-Noir honors that reputation. Musically, Viza-Noir draws
inspiration from post-punk icons Wire, Wipers, MX-80, & The Ex among others.
Definite nods must also be given to the brief Midwest noise renaissance that
occurred in the late '80s & early '90s. While such convenient points of
reference tend to invite the classification of "math rock" into the room,
Viza-Noir's routine is 100% free of the obliquely self-conscious
conservatism that mars the typical smarty-rock exercise. On stage this band
connects with its audience on the visceral level of pure rock: tension,
velocity & skree. These 6 songs, recorded by the band at their own Full
Pull Studios, are their first foray into the world that is the Compact Disc
after two 7" releases. Behold the marvel of modern technology.
