2006, Dischord
The elegant tremolo erosion of "Solid Ring Fighters" and a pair of flailing instrumentals drain away like the viscous remains of distant events. The album cascades downward like the final recognition of fading imprints. Dark corners exposed briefly by a dimming flashlight, batteries dying, before the door is locked for good. "We Closed A Record Store" recounts the final moments of a broken relationship, with Quinley’s voice frequently teeming off into uncertain ellipses of failed emotional fortification: "It's cool I'm good and things are fine and we’re okay." The personal and confessional cool of "Cavity Called Home" and "Here's Why Dancers Smoke" feel like interpersonal art, removed from radio rock's exhibitionist edifice and ultimately reflect Soccer Team's D.C. heritage.
