2006, Moteer
UK IMPORT. "We made it for you out of love on a saved orphaned piano. Its rusty, out of tune strings, beaten by dust covered hammers on an unstable creaking floor. The vibrations of its soul captured one last time. A revealing cover shot of a human hand and a tiny, rusting old piano cosily set in a small cardboard box, highlights the delicate qualities of the second album from The Boats. Piano provides the central theme to all the tunes here -- sometimes merely echoing in a particularly resonant room, in others eddying and flowing like the tug and ebb of the seaside tides. Acoustic flotsam and jetsam collide, to provide this warm as toast, heartening and spirited journey into the world of Moteer, a place where magic is commonplace, friends are thought of tenderly and moments are there to be savoured. This album is dedicated to a list of names -- which in themselves become the track titles -- seeming intimately familiar by the end of the recording and yet strangely shadowy and ineffable, like the finest pieces contained in this super album."- boats

Customer Reviews

Andy FrenchThis hushed electronic record by UK duo The Boats can be described as nothing short of fragile. Built around a central theme of piano melodies cut through with subtle electronic effects. This is a calming Sunday morning record perfect for a little drizzle. The album has been generating much attention in its native country, peeking into quite a few top 50 lists from last year. Fans of recent releases by Mountains and Colleen will appreciate this record. Soaked with the same intimate feelings that like the title suggest feel like a performance played for a handful of people.
