Their first new album in eight years. "Weightlifting" has a floating feeling about it, but it's still solid and emphatic. From the opener "Welcome Back," with its thumping charge of the cavalry coming over the hill, brandishing noisy electric guitars, to the heartfelt love letter, "Got Carried Away" (which features one of Frank’s most emotive vocal performances, supported by vocals from Teenage Fanclub’s Norman Blake and delicate curls of pedal steel guitar), the band has never sounded better.
