2004, Warner Brothers
This, the much-anticipated third album by Detroit's critically acclaimed brother and sister duo (... or not?), was recorded at the legendary Easley Studio in Memphis, TN. If The White Stripes were the Velvet Underground, this would be their "Loaded." "White Blood Cells" contains 15 original tracks performed by Jack and Meg White, no orchestras, session yabbos, or studio trickery. This is elegant simplicity, full of glorious surprises and more than a handful of instant classics. As much of a departure from "Destijl" as "Destijl" was from their debut album, "White Blood Cells" is proof that The White Stripes truly ARE the great white hope.
