2011, One Little Indian
The third effort by London-based, Paris-born Underground Railroad is a darker venture than their previous albums, but firmly in place are the band's big catchy choruses and nods to the American indie tradition as well as the anthemic quirk of countrymen like Radiohead. White Night Stand has a streak of Lynchian surrealism – multiple songs are named after Twin Peaks episodes, in fact – but its lush sonics and memorable melodies maintain accessibility amidst the strangeness. Inspired equally by Liars, David Bowie and London nightlife, White Night Stand's swirling drama is bound to infect U.S. audiences once again.
