Whiting Tennis

Whiting Tennis began work on Three Leaf Clover at his Manhattan apartment in 2004, just prior to his prodigal return to Seattle, and continuing up through 2006. To a large extent, the songs on Three Leaf Clover reflect where Whiting was emotionally during his last few years in New York, finding it difficult to make a home there, but also finding it difficult to leave. "The title came to me one day when I was in some pretty deep shit. The idea is that the ordinary is already extraordinary. Our search for those special, four-leaf clovers is stupid because it's based on wanting something rare just so you can have what other people don't have." This theme of the ordinary as extraordinary can be heard throughout this record as Whiting takes simple, everyday events and concepts and turns them into exquisite moments while not falling into the trappings of dwelling on himself or looking for attention.
