Wolf Eyes
Drawing from such disparate sources as Throbbing Gristle, Black Flag, and King Tubby, the Michigan trio Wolf Eyes create harsh and hypnotic electronic landscapes that merge the frenzied energy of hardcore with the nihilistic menace of early industrial and noise. Constant touring in the early 2000s brought the group a strong cult fan base and opened the hermetic world of the noise underground to a new generation of curious indie rockers, punks, and experimentalists.
Initially, Wolf Eyes was the solo moniker for Nate Young, vocalist and c...[more]

Wolf Eyes are at the forefront of a quickly expanding American noise scene. The music this trio creates is truly terrifying. Sonic touchstones include Throbbing Gristle, early Cabaret Voltaire, Black Flag, Whitehouse, pre-Asheton Destroy All Monsters, Negative Approach, Swans, and early Sonic Youth, with whom they're playing all summer. "The best record Sub Pop's released since 'Touch Me I'm Sick'...Like mixing The Stooges and The New Blockaders in a heart full of gore. Total f---ing sickboy!"--Thurston Moo [ read more ]

VINYL FORMAT. Since the release of 2004's Burned Mind, Wolf Eyes have been relentless in the fulfillment of their mission: to tour to the point of insanity and, in the process, to play with some of their most revered influences such as Anthony Braxton, Smegma, and Whitehouse. Somehow, they've also managed to continue releasing limited CDRs in infinitesimal editions. This limited edition 12-inch (2,000 copies) is a preview of their forthcoming missive, Human Animal.

Wolf Eyes roots are from a much hidden and very ugly world called the cassette noise underground. Here we have a proper CD issue of the most accomplished of their many cassette releases, Slicer. Unlike the heavy brutal beat vibe of last years Dread album, Slicer is a more minimal, tone heavy, and even slower recording. Deep electronic and horne generated tones stretch and separate overtop of 'glitchy' electronics, ultra crude tape manipulations, and ear-piercing scraping glass. The most 'in the zone' and st [ read more ]

As a follow up to their second CD, Dread, on Bulb Records, Ann Arbor's cassette culture noise therapists hit back hard with an unofficial LP release on Bad Glue Records. Even though the band won't take credit for the album's pointed title, Wolf Eyes later agreed that it was very fitting. The LP was limited to 600 copies and sold out immediately in the summer of 2002. This is a CD version of that LP which is part of Wabana's 'Re-issue the LP' campaign.

Despite all the Godflesh-meets-Lull type comparisons that are constantly thrown around about this group, Dread shows this Michigan trio moving deeper into their world of electronic trickery and away from even the slightest hint of standard songwriting. The key to this recording is length, as the songs sacrifice songcraft for building interesting sonic structures to support the rantings of Nathan Young. And Young is the glue holding this thing together; without his occasional yelps, the album [ read more ]
