1999, Pickled Egg
This six track mini album is the official debut release by the surrealist Leicester quartet, Volcano The Bear, following numerous limited live CDR releases on their own Volucan label. Perhaps not surprisingly, the group are much loved at The Wire magazine, and also by Nurse With Wound (a rare accolade amongst contemporary bands). In fact, NWW's United Dairies label have subsequently released two VTB albums, The Inhaser Decline and Five Hundred Boy Piano.
'Yak Folks serves as an ideal way into their primitive, non-musicianly universe. After the extended chaos of their ltd edition CDRs, the six tracks that make up 'Yak Folks' sound almost coherent' -David Keenan, The Wire
'When Volcano the Bear hit a groove, it's a rare groove indeed. The metallic flail of 'Where are the Bounds' sounds like it's been dragged through Can backwards.' -Victoria Segal, NME
