2006, The Baudelaire Label
Anyone who doesn't mind music being omnipresent, however, will find lots to love here. There's the way frontman Pete Carmichael sounds like he's reaching for the heavens on every song -- which, admittedly, can be a little exhausting, but the fact he's able to pull it off as well near the end of the album as he does at the beginning shows how his talent as a lead singer. There's the throbbing bassline at the heart of songs like 'Push It To Monday', which is guaranteed to get both the adrenaline and the dancefloor pumping. There's Tara Hulk's farfisa organ bouncing around every song, giving the whole album a retro feel. And, of course, there's the glory of a track like 'Sugar Laced Soul', where Carmichael sings 'Don't you know why people love one another? / It's so they can feel their hearts beat together' and, for the few minutes of the song, it sounds like it could be one of those anthems that transcends borders of all kinds. ~matthew, iheartmusic
