Young Jazz Giants

A traditional jazz record worthy of Blue Note or Prestige. This group of extremely talented young musicians from South Central Los Angeles has devoted their lives to playing jazz music. Pianist Cameron Graves has been playing for 16 years and has performed at the Playboy Jazz Festival, with the Amistad Choir, with jazz legends such as Erie Andrews; and with film composer Danny Elfman. Bassist Stephen Brunner has been playing for nine years and has performed in the Playboy Jazz Festival twice and with Wayne Shorter, Diane Reeves, Terry Lin Carrigan, and Patrice Rushen, among others. Saxophonist Kamasi Washington has been playing for nine years as well and has performed the Playboy Jazz Festival; with the Clayton Hamilton jazz Orchestra at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion; with Gerald Wilson, Wayne Shorter, Diane Reeves, and N'dugu Chansler. He was the winner of the John Coltrane competition at age seventeen, when the competition was meant for eighteen- through-forty-year-olds. (He's also a member of Snoop Dogg's live band.) Drummer Ronald Bruner has been playing for sixteen years. And has performed with Ron Carter, Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Diane Reeves, Suicidal Tendencies (!), and many others.
