2004, Mush
VINYL FORMAT. An all-star line-up joins Marc Bianchi for The Young Machines Remixed, a companion piece to his 2003 Mush release, The Young Machines. Tracks from the original album are dissected and reconstructed, and the remixers all exceed expectations. The styles of the acts involved are as diverse as they are impressive. Mixes by Matmos, Stereolab, Super Fury Animals, Dntel, Arab Strap, Boom Bip, Nobody, The Album Leaf, Broken Spindles, and Blockhead all hold true to key elements of the originals and build around them in their own unique styles. From IDM-influenced electronic through psychedelic hiphop meltdowns, from organic reworkings to Japanese-influenced kitsch, The Young Machines Remixed succeeds as a cohesive album while allowing the artists involved to shine on their own terms. Recording under the Her Space Holiday moniker since 1996, Marc Bianchi conjures sugarcoated dreamscapes that float alongside sweet and bitter narratives. The Her Space Holiday sound morphs from release to release as Bianchi matures as a songwriter and adds intricate sampling and drum programming to an already rich palette.
