Dave Clarke inherited a fascination with technology from his father, who foresaw the rise of surround sound and solid-state memory. Raised in cosmopolitan Brighton, he was able to access a wide range of music scenes, from mod revival to gay disco, but punk was the first music to resonate with young Clarke, shortly followed by hip-hop, electro and techno. Listening soon led to DJing and production, and he released under various guises during the early 90s on labels such as XL, R&S, and his own Magnetic North, before releasing the seminal Red series under his own name in 1994-95. This series, along with his debut LP, Archive One, brought him to wider public attention. Legendary BBC broadcaster John Peel took him under his wing, nicknaming Clarke "the baron of techno." IT would provide an apt moniker, as he would quickly become a figurehead for a previously notoriously underground musical movement, even scoring a UK Top 40 chart entry. fabric 60 sees David Clarke combine the elctro and techno sounds for which he is predominantly known for the first time on one disc, to devastating effect.
