Garland of Hours is the ongoing musical project of Amy Domingues. She is a freelance cellist, teacher, and composer living in Arlington, VA, USA. She maintains a cello teaching studio and works on various recording projects including film scores. In 2003 her first foray into soundtrack music appeared in the film The Weather Underground, nominated for a Best Documentary Academy Award. She is also a member of the neo-classical chamber group Threnody Ensemble and plays piano, cello and sings in her own band (Garland of Hours). Ms. Domingues has performed in the United Kingdom, Europe, and Japan, in addition to the United States. She appears as a recording artist on over forty albums to date ranging from classical, electronica, indie-pop, and alt-country styles.


Ms. Domingues usually invites different artists to collaborate with her bothon stage and in the studio. The first Garland of Hours LP saw input from Jerry Busher (French Toast, Fugazi [as their second drummer in later years], Fidelity Jones, amongst others) and Brendan Canty (who has also been involved with a slew of local DC projects, but is most well-known as a founding member of Fugazi). The most recent release featured a completely different lineup, and saw Mary Timony amongst others working with Ms. Domingues. Although she almost always performs with a full band on stage, she has been known more recently to perform a beautiful solo "cover of a Lungfish song accompanied by just her cello and a tape loop" (dcist.com). Indeed, in addition to classical music and the local DC scene, she often cites Baltimore's Lungfish as one of her favorite all-time bands, and this can perhaps be detected in the way that they similarly invoke an "eerie timelessness" (Washington City Paper) despite creating different types of music.


Ms. Domingues has appeared as a guest on over 40 albums, including releases by Ted Leo and the Pharmacists, Jets To Brazil, Bob Mould, Dead Meadow, and Fugazi. Live, she has played cello in backing bands for artists such as Cat Power.
