Ladytron
Buzzy glam rock fashion plates Ladytron came together in a jet-set miracle in mid-1998. Daniel Hunt and Reuben Wu, who lurk in the background playing rhythm boxes and keyboards in the band, settled in Liverpool after a spate of DJ work in Japan and world travel, including a train trip in Bulgaria where they met vocalist Mira Aroyo. The release brought a wave of critical attenti...[more]

Velocifero fully transcends the confines of electro-pop with a fresh wave of distorted soul. Mira and Helen - whose disparate vocal styles already provide considerable depth -have evolved both as musicians and songwriters, lending provocative harmonies to songs like "Runaway" and "I'm Not Scared." Serenely beautiful at times and noisy and disturbing at others; like all the best records should be. These Electro-Clash pioneers return with their stunning new album! In pop folklore, bands were allowed three full-lengths to become themselves, yet the labeled third album is an increasing rarity in this low-attention span era. It comes as a rare treat to find that Liverpool-based boy/girl four-piece Ladytron have reached this mythical milestone with Witching Hour, their best album yet, and one that f [ read more ]

On Light & Magic, the follow-up to the critically acclaimed 604, Ladytron do indeed bring on the special effects, adding denser arrangements, more complex melodies, and processed vocals to their brand of spooky, stylish synth pop. Like Chicks on Speed and Adult., Ladytron helped shape the sound of electro-clash before the style even had a name, and, in turn, this album feels influenced by the music that followed once the style formalized. Tracks such as "Turn It On," "Fire," an [ read more ]
