Nebraska natives Mike Elsener (vocals/guitar, also of Solar Wind), Ben Armstrong (vocals, keyboards, drums, ex-Commander Venus), and Matt Focht (vocals, guitar, also of Bright Eyes) formed Head of Femur in Chicago in late 2001. We ride leisurely into the Great Plains on a clip-clopping horse, drawn by Head of Femur's dreamy Beatlesesque harmonies and the pull of a trumpet solo. Two years after their SpinART sophomore release Hysterical Stars, Head of Femur releases its third full-length, stripping down to a more accessible five-piece. However, the group still manages to stay true to its ambitious trademark sound, lacing together art-rock sensibilities reflective of the Talking Heads and the organic, homegrown feel of Neil Young and The Band.

Band is fronted by Matt Focht, drummer of BRIGHT EYES, as well as other core members of MAYDAY, plus touring members of those bands. All those members (between seven and 10 at last count) have created songs with ambitious arrangements, layers of vocal harmonies, interactive melodies, and pure energy with a surprising cohesiveness. There's a huge element of playfulness in their melodies and they use their powers of 'rock orchestra' to the most ROCKING extreme.
