Swedish indie pop hopefuls Shout Out Louds were formed in Stockholm by childhood friends Adam Olenius (vocals), Ted Malmros (bass), and Carl von Arbin (guitars) in 2001. Soon after they were joined by Eric Edman (drums) and Bebban Stenborg (vocals, keys) and began writing songs. The first three they wrote formed the basis of their first demo tape. The songs caught the ear of Filip WilTn, the owner of Sweden's Bud Fox Recordings, and he quickly signed them. The group spent 2002 writing more songs and in December recorded four of them for a debut EP, 2003...[more]

The Swedish band's sophomore effort and Merge debut is the follow-up to 2005's critically acclaimed Howl Howl Gaff Gaff on Capitol. Our Ill Wills is a collaborative effort between the group and producer Bjorn Yttling (of Peter, Bjorn and John). This band is all about the rush, the emotion, and the infectious melodies that along with youth, good hair, and the endless pursuit of love, make up the foundation of all great pop music.   [ read more ]

Debut album from Stockholm's garage-pop now-wave powerhouse, The Shout Out Louds. Fans of the new New Wave (Neo New Wave?) scene (Radio 4, Interpol, etc.) will love this record. In David Fricke's "Out There" column, he hypes the band's new album, gushing thusly: "This Swedish not-so-Sixties garage band pumps up the jangle with striking New Wave verve: tense, Strokes-like guitars; New Order-style keys; and a singer, guitarist Adam Olenius, who's got a hint of the Cure's Robert Smith in his yelp.

Shout Out Louds' debut record, Howl Howl Gaff Gaff, is a blast of sparkling energy from start to finish and a contender for best out-of-the-blue debut of 2005. Coming from the angle of the pure pop sound of the '60s filtered through the indie pop of the '80s and '90s and the Beach Boys-worshiping chamber pop of the early 2000s, the Swedish quintet has crafted an album loaded with great songs, exciting performances, and an unerring ear for arrangements. In fact, a better combination of arra   [ read more ]

Shout Out Louds' debut, Howl Howl Gaff Gaff, was a bracing slap of a record. Uplifting -- as in off your seat and onto your feet as well as raising your spirits -- and exciting, it was the work of a young, wild band in love with pop music and seemingly life itself. The follow-up from two years later finds a band trying to recover from heartbreak. Gloomy where Howl was sunny, autumnal where Howl was a summer afternoon, sad where the other was bright, Our Ill Wills is the work of tortured souls   [ read more ]
