The Hold Steady
Resisting the musical trends in New York City, vocalist/guitarist Craig Finn (ex-Lifter Puller) formed the Hold Steady after moving from Minneapolis in 2000. Wanting to capture the sound of bands such as the Replacements and the Grifters, he recruited guitarist Tad Kubler (also ex-Lifter Puller), drummer Judd Counsell, and bassist Galen Polivka. After releasing their highly praised debut in 2004, this NYC act didn't waste any time getting back in the studio to record a follow up. Led by Craig Finn, ex-Lifter Puller, the band combines intelligent lyrics and ideas with solid classic rock musical foundation, replete with screaming guitar solos. Separation Sunday was co-produced by Dave Gardener (Rocket From The Crypt, Drive Like Jehu & Hot Snakes) & Dean Botulonis (also helmed the knobs & whistles for the Hold Steady's first record.)
