Nadja

Taking on vocalist and bass player Leah Buckareff allowed the expansion of Nadja's sound, as well as the ability to play live. Established in 2003, Nadja's early releases followed the pattern already established by Baker, that is to ...[more]

VINYL FORMAT. Edition of 500 copies, packaged in a heavy book bound LP sleeve and pressed on 180-gram vinyl. Warning: not recommended for listening in buildings without earthquake retrofitting: Nadja's doom-fuzz may crack foundations and/or reduce nearby objects to jelly. However, Nadja, here performing a quartet of solo Aidan Baker covers, maintains a certain melodic balance within the throat-clearing guitar lurches which levitates the heavy, like the most graceful pterodactyl-flying-off-with-a-dead-baby-I [ read more ]

A 4 song delve into the deepest recesses of the back of your mind. Aidan Bakers Doom/drone project takes on a more visceral attack on this EP and channels some earlier hardcore elements to give these songs an incredibly intense feel while not abandoning what Nadja has always been about. We could not be more thrilled to start of with this release and feel Nadja has delivered their strongest work to date.

Profound Lore's second collaboration with Nadja comes in the form of the re-vamped, augmented, and altered Bliss Torn From Emptiness. Given the ultimate facelift from its original CDR release, and now expanded into a massive three track plunge (with a mastering job via James Plotkin), Bliss Torn From Emptiness is a sprawling and meticulously crafted epic where controlled ambience and static crawls through a murk of claustrophobic cerebral chaos. Yet through the sprawling mass of overbearing fe [ read more ]

Trembled has returned, triumphantly, after being released by Utech Records [046] in the summer of 2006 on limited CD-R. The principal live recordings from Toronto have been remixed/remastered and include a rare performance of Swans 'No Cure for the Lonely.' The core of the release, though, is 'Tremble,' a cascading improvisation of drift and atmospherics revealed to audiences on an occasional basis. The track is telling of the fluidity with which Nadja create and why the band has become so highly reg [ read more ]

Nadja is an ambient doom metal monster fronted by multi-talented Toronto musician and writer Aidan Baker. Formed in 2003 as a solo project, it has since been augmented by bassist Leah Buckareff. The music of Nadja will certainly be name-checked with current rulers of the genre Sunn(O))) and with good reason. Having said this, Nadja is different than the bulk of bands operating in the outsider metal movement these days as they employ a much heavier use of ambient aesthetics and influences that help forge the [ read more ]
