Wye Oak
Wye Oak, a Baltimore-based indie rock duo comprised of Jenn Wasner (guitar, vocals) and Andy Stack (drums, vocals), took their name from a symbolic 460-year old tree in their home state of Maryland. Formed in 2006 under the moniker Monarch, the pair recorded their first album gypsy style, bouncing around various basements and apartments, eventually landing a record deal with indie heavyweight Merge, which would go on to release the act's debut, If Children in 2008, as well as its 2009 follow-up, Knot. ~ James Christopher Monger, All Music Guide[more]

Wye Oak believes if a song is good enough, it will stand on its own regardless of how much noise you put on top of it. Lush guitars, flawless harmonies, and evocative lyrics are amplified by the layers of noise proving the truth of this philosophy. If Children has hints of shoegaze and glimmers of folk, but its resounding characteristic is a refreshingly unique sound from this young band who, will continue to grow and change while extolling their Maryland roots.
