The Walkmen feature three members from Jonathan Fire Eater and two from the Recoys. When Jonathan Fire Eater disbanded in 1998, the group took the remainder of their Dreamworks funding and established an uptown rehearsal space in New York City that doubles as a 24-track recording studio where they use a wide variety of vintage equipment. The 900-square-foot Harlem industrial space, dubbed Marcata Studios, was completed in the fall of 1999. Emerging from waves of crashing cymbals and fuzzed-out guitars comes a raw, angry wail. Like other NYC bands including Interpol and the Strokes, The Walkmen rely on layers of reverb and distorted guitars and draw upon influences ranging from early U2 to the Velvet Underground. Lacking the droning vocals of Interpol or the clinical precision of the Strokes, the Walkmen have crafted a sound filled with desperation and bitter honesty. "Bows And Arrows" begins much the way its predecessor did, with wave   [ read more ]

During John Lennon's separation from Yoko Ono in 1974, he romped around LA with his buddy Harry Nilsson, getting drunk and getting thrown out of nightclubs. In the midst of the party, Lennon, Nilsson, Ringo Starr, Keith Moon, and a rag-tag gang of others headed into the studio with Lennon as producer. The result was Pussy Cats, a fascinating and often misunderstood album featuring a mix of classics and originals rearranged by Nilsson and Lennon to suit the wild mood of those infamous days. This hotly anticipated release finds two of NYC's most talked-about bands together for the first time! THE WALKMEN contain members of JONATHAN FIRE*EATER and THE RECOYS, and have been gathering intense critical acclaim over the past year. Their sound is a unique blend of early (pre-dance) NEW ORDER and early (pre-LAME) U2, mixed with a little BRUCE (aka: The Boss). Their sound is honest and genuine, unlike most bands who tend to wear their inspirations on their sleeves and leave nothing to their imagination   [ read more ]

VINYL FORMAT. Single "In The New Year" b/w "Ride Down The Highway." "In The New Year" is the second single to be lifted from The Walkmen's critically acclaimed full-length You & Me, following the smoldering success of first single "The Blue Route". Like much of the rest of the album "In The New Year" is a meticulously constructed whirl of The Walkmen's trademark clanging guitars and otherworldly keyboards which sounds like nothing else out there, and sounds all the better for it.
