Say Hi to Your Mom
Singer/songwriter Eric Elbogen is the brainchild behind Say Hi to Your Mom, an indie rock project formed in 2002 in Elbogen's native New York, NY. Elbogen also founded Euphobia Records that same year as an outlet to release his records, the first of which was the Discosadness LP. Both that album and its enchanting follow-up, 2003's Numbers & Mumbles, were recorded on Elbogen's homemade PC, and his hands-on approach captured Say Hi to Your Mom's tightly woven acoustic sound in progress. For 2005's Ferocious Mopes, drummer Chris Egan III and ex-{...[more]

The sophomore record from Brookyn's Say Hi To Your Mom, Numbers & Mumbles is an indie-pop effort that is equal parts upbeat hooks and introspective melancholy. Like the band's debut, Discosadness, Numbers presents the listener with a clever cocktail of gurgling synthesizers, warm electric guitars, and minimalist drum beats. These are songs that speak to the festering nerds in all of us, that share a joke about inevitable human ruts and aren't afraid to wallow in the joy of spaceships, c [ read more ]

Impeccable Blahs is the fourth Say Hi To Your Mom record. It's also a record about vampires. Not creepy, goth vampires but rather people just like you and me who happen to get their nourishment from drinking blood. Like its three predecessors, the new full-length finds Eric Elbogen mumbling, whispering and shouting over his quirky indie rock compositions, but 'Blahs' introduces longtime touring members Chris Egan III and Jeff Sheinkopf to the recording process, resulting in what people are saying is [ read more ]

Once again, the thematic oddities that inhabit Ferocious Mopes, the third full length from the Brooklyn, New York's Say Hi To Your Mom, are as colorful and evocative as they come. But as bizarre or quirky as the subject matter is, there's always something inherently human and vulnerable at the core of every Say Hi song. Having quickly become one of underground indie rock's most prolific & lovable acts SAY HI TO YOUR MOM continues to garner impressive accolades for its catchy brand of quirk pop. This [ read more ]

The record that started it all. Discosadness introduces the listener to Say Hi To Your Mom's dynamic brand of sugary indie pop. Over the course of 10 songs, the group splatters texture over songs that contemplate big-city vampires, cat-killers, laundry day, computer-geek spies, and games of twister in the midst of blizzards. Understated whisper vocals lock lips with soft electric guitars and the occasional swirling synthesizer. If you like hooks, you'll be humming these for days. RIYL: Pavement, The [ read more ]

VINYL FORMAT. Say Hi is Eric Elbogen, who wrote and recorded his new album, Oohs and Aahs, at his home studio over the course of 2008. "Oohs and Aahs... is more of what we've come to expect from Elbogen, with guitars and synths dueling it out for pop supremacy underneath his controlled vocals. "Dramatic Irony" starts with a skeletal guitar figure, but booming drums give the track body; a few flourishes of brass keep it moving. "One, Two ...
