Originally a five-piece group that formed in 2001 in Philadelphia, PA, Pattern Is Movement, would -- over time -- whittle themselves down to a duo (Andrew Thiboldeaux and Chris Ward) specializing in quasi-math rock "wall of sound"-type stuff. Pattern is Movement's second album, Stowaway, was recorded June of 2005 in San Francisco at Tiny Telephone and 15th Street studios by Scott Solter who has engineered records for John Vanderslice, Spoon, Mountain Goats, Tarentel, the Court and Spark, and Ester Drang. For Stowaway, Pattern is Movement expanded their instrumentation and their treatment of sound with cello and viola arrangements, percussion ensembles, and tape speed edits.
